*The search feature isn't working for me for some reason*

Anyways, I am about to sell my car here in Korea. I have some questions that even my Korean co-teachers had trouble answering.

-Does the buyer of the car have to do the registration in his/her city? Or can they use any registration office in any city.

-How much is the registration fee?

-Is there a sales tax if I sell person to person? If so, how much is it?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, there are taxes, but they are minimal and you pay them all right there when you do the transfer.

Basically, if you don't have one of the registered red name stamps you will both need to go to the registration office together when you sell the car or they won't be able to register it. So you could either go to their town with them, or they could register it where you're at and then transfer it to where they live later.

Absolutely you must go with them to the office or it will be a headache for them.

I am not sure about the fees, but they aren't much, certainly less than 100,000 won including all taxes and fees (at least on cars worth less than a mil)

Thanks for the reply, so say if I meet the buyer in a city in between us, can we do the registration in that city? Or does it have to be my city or their city?

I would think so....but I really don't know. All I know for sure is that it isn't expensive to do the transfer, and that unless you get a Korean name stamp (and register it) that it will be a nightmare for the buyers if you aren't there to sign over the title in person.

I think that it also makes a difference if you're moving between provinces. When we bought the car we have now we registered it in a different city than where we lived at the time, but it was in the same province and it didn't seem to be a problem. We never transferred it to our town. But then we moved up north, so we went in and transferred it to our new province.
