Islamic Conservatives Protest Against Beyonce in Egypt
http://www.koreaherald.co.kr/service/jherald.asp?art_id=200911240007&trans=1

Interesting article about the culture clash that is going on in the Middle East and in Muslim countries.

Cool

I can understand their disgust, and I don't see any real problem with them voicing their displeasure, so long as they do not resort to violence.

Read about this happening in Malaysia, too.

Stupid religious conservatism.

If you don't like it, don't go to the concert. To attempt to imply that the government should interfere on the grounds that their 'fairy tale creation' doesn't approve of it makes me want to facepalm myself with a brick.

Pathetic.

I can see why they would protest agains the advertisements since it did sound rather obscene, especially for an Islamci country and it can be hard to avoid seeing advertisements.

As for the concert, I agree with runthegauntlet, if they don't like it, then don't go. To say it's a sex party is just stupid.

What I think is more obscene is to have a concert in a 3rd world country and then charge such an outrageous price for tickets. About $350 for a ticket. How many Egyptians can afford that?

Haha. True. Didn't hear they were going for that much. Absurd.

Actually I was wrong, I read the article again and it said that was the price for the best tickets. No idea how much the cheapest tickets cost. While trying to look that up I came across another article about how people in Trinidad were upset over her concert being so close to their Carnival which puts more pressure on the local music industry. Looks like she upets people wherever she goes. Maybe she can get Kanye West to defend her.

Isn't that like another way of saying your own music sucks? Not saying their music sucks, but what exactly are they implying?

Turn Beyonce into a fat, 35 year old guy with the same voice, and suddenly people would stop rushing to buy tickets to Beyonce concerts. It's got nothing to do with the music; people are just susceptible to celebrity for some reason.

He was pretty handsome when he became a celebrity. And he also didn't have Beyonce's voice. Razz

He was still packing them in right up til the end. Like you said, "susceptible to celebrity for some reason".

Mentioning Beyonce in the same breath as Elvis is pure blasphemy, you heretic. Nobody will shed a tear the day Beyonce dies, unlike The King.
