I work at a really nice Hagwon and today they asked me if I would stay for another year. Do I get a contract completion bonus for every year I work at a company, or only after my final contract is finished and I am going home? Thanks for the help. |

I don't know, do you get a bonus for re-signing? Or, I should say, would you still renew your contract if you don't get that bonus? This is the time for negotiations. Be upfront but polite regarding your conditions to stay.
The raise is a given, but what about round trip airfare home? There is much to discuss with your employer. |

Yes, you get a one-month severance payout for each year worked. Whether that gets paid out annually or in total at the end of your final contract is up to what you sort out with your boss. |

Thanks for the reply schwa, that's what I am hoping for. Dorothy Parker, I guess I should be a lttle bit clearer regarding my question. I know that I get a completion bonus for my one year of employpent. I was wondering if you are only entitled to one completion bonus per school you work at? If I work multiple years at the same hagwon, do I get that extra month salary each year? Do they normally pay it at the end of each contract or at the end of your final year? My wife and I work at the same school, so the bonuses would add up over time. I know I have a good position, but 5K a year extra might be worth it to work at a different school if I'm limited to one months extra pay per school. I hope this makes sense. Thanks |

you should get that severance payment (completion bonus) for each 12 month contract you work. some schools will want to pay it to you when you finally leave their school for good, but seeing as you're at a hagwon, i think you should ask for your severance payment for this contract before you start the new contract.
i know you say it's a nice school, but i've seen great hagwons go bad very quickly once end of contract benefits are brought up. |

Thanks for the advice nomad-ish. What you say makes a lot of sense. If we resign that will have to be one of our stipulations. |
