I'm transferring from my current school to a new school on my E2 visa.

I have the letter of release from my school, but where a problem has arised is my new school wants my original degree. I got my first job by using a Certificate of attainment from my university which is documented proof that I am able to graduate (when i sent my documents from home I had not graduated yet). Now I have graduated my new school is saying I have to bring them my original degree (which is currently framed in my parents home). So that they can transfer my visa.

Now, from what I have read online. Once the degree or proof of degree is submitted. You do not need to bring it to immigration to get an E2 visa.

So...whats up?

Bottom line, you should have the diploma with you or at second best a copy which I think would be notarized claiming it is in fact referring to you. I have the real thing with me, so I never tried the second approach.

If you go ahead with it, you may need to provide this each time you switch schools. With that said, I have been able to transfer with only showing my degree once.

Recruiters ask for scanned copies of the degree and passport often before telling a school they have a potential teacher. So, instead of fighting that you don't need it, ask your parents to scan it and send you a copy.

You could start out seeing if that is good enough. If the school really wants you, they will either accept it or tell you how to get it to their liking.

Why not just have your parents send you the real thing, then you can bypass all this authenticity red tape and move on to your next job?

Thanks for the advice. I'd really like to avoid the hassle and wait of getting the degree sent over. If I could have just used the Certificate of Attianment I have on me that would have been great. I'll find out more tomorrow.
