What's this area like? From Google maps, it looks like a hellish concentration of commie blocks and soulless high-rise buildings.

Anyone familiar with this area?

Yup...it's called Seoul. Wink

You'd be on the south end of the Banpo bridge that leads directly to the central district of Seoul. You're also close to Itaewon (foreign district) and Gangnam (more upscale)...not a bad place to be.

Kim's Club is a large market that has a nice grocery store, clothing and other stuff. It's also within walking distance of the Express Bus Terminal that grants access to lots of areas around the country.

Thanks for the info -- it certainly looks convenient.

But I like the villa neighborhoods with little back alleys and things...and this specific area just looks like highways dotted with giant highrises...Oh well.

I know a guy who teaches a kid there. It's just a huge huge collection of high rises, but it's tree-lined and very pleasant. Better looking than other similarly grouped places around Seoul.

You should check out Seorae Maeul, I think it's the kind of neighborhood you're looking for. It's mostly villas and cafes, sort of old-fashioned looking, and close to a big park and a hill with walking paths. A lot of French people live around there, since the French School is on the main drag. It's somewhat hard to find, no subway right there, but they have those little green maeul buses that run to nearby subway stations.

Yeah -- I guess that would be considered "Bangbae-dong"?

It's definitely going to be a top focus area when I look for something more permanent. Just looking for a 2-3 month sublet for now so I can do a proper house hunt.

My fear is Seorae maeul may be overpriced for my budget -- but I'll take a look and see.

Anyone know where I can find a bunch of photos of Jamwon-dong? Quite difficult.
