If my contract expires in April is it possible to get a six week gap between contracts? So that my new contract begins in mid may?
I am with GEPIK. Has anyone been in a similar situation? |

There are a few of issues you will have to contend with.
You want a 6 week break in the middle of the academic term (not in one of the semester breaks). virtually unheard of.
If you take a 6 week break between contracts then your contracts are NOT continuous and immigration will give you problems or just out and out disallow it and require you to obtain a new visa for the new contract.
You WILL lose the perks for a renewal since you will have to get a new visa instead of just extend your current status of sojourn. |

thanks for that. I never thought about the problems caused with my visa too much to be honest.........
Surely this has been attempted before by people. Can anyone tell me what their school thought about this please? |

Okay now that I have stopped laughing, I'd like to thank you for clearing my system. They say laughter is the best medicine.
Or........................ were you serious?
I mean really, you have to ask?
Your odds are like 0.1 percent. And, that's if and only if the school and the admins think you walk on water. |

Seoulio's response was helpful -- the answer was "no." Of course, there was some mocking added to it, but basically, it was, "no, that most likely won't be possible -- 99.99% certain."
...or did you want someone to encourage you and blow smoke about it?
If you can make it seem economically feasible to give you a 6 week break (that is, if you can show them how they can somehow save money by giving you the break), then I would say you have a chance. If it costs them as much or more than hiring a new person, then no, you have no shot. |

The fact that you even asked is hilarious, This is so obviosly a question that the answer would almost always be no, and even if we had a princiapl that said yes, hat would be a one in a million shot and in no way would mean yours would.
And as the other guy said, it was completely helpful, and your question was answered by the end. |

I don't see how this is a hilarious question. Call me crazy, but I don't sit on the toilet memorizing the GEPIK handbook like Seoulio over here...
In the future, just give the advice first, and save the BS until the end... or just cut it out entirely so you don't give off the "i've lived in seoul way too long and i'm bitter" vibe... |

I fail to see how this is a stupid question. If your school likes you, they're not going to want to have to through looking for another teacher that could turn out to be a sarcastic bum none of them like.
Besides two weeks at home after a year over here? That's what a total of 10 days to say hi then bye again after your plane flights?
You get time off for the death of a relative - maybe you can try faking one of those Beeston. |
