Hey you all, now that I am less busy (haha... as if ), I am going to focus my energy on developing the Biz. Eng. S(pecial) I(nterest) (Group).
As the name suggests, it's for people who are teaching Biz. Eng. in any way, shape or form. There are several things I have in mind to get the show running, so to speak, and am wondering if there are people out there who are interested in joining and contributing?
You do NOT need to be a KOTESOL member to join a SIG - SIGs are open to anyone in Korea.
So if you're interested, please either reply to this thread or shoot me a PM and I will get something going.
Feel free to ask questions!
Cheers |

I'm really interested in this! I taught Business English for 7 years in London in a very old and famous private school in Kensington. We tailor made courses for groups and had as our clients most of the top companies in Europe. We conducted needs analyses for groups in advance to get to the heart of their requirements and the experience was amazing
We taught them how to give presentations (often using Mark Powell's Presenting in English). We videotaped them and gave language feedback.
They were taught discussion language and roleplayed meetings that were either written by us in consultation with them (as they were the experts) or which came from Market Leader (not so hot..)
They also performed roleplayed Negotiations either individually or in teams.
The school used a combination of the lexical approach ("chunks" and commonly used phrases from the Michael Hughes methodology) and individual language feedback rather than overt grammar teaching to assist them to improve their English skills as most of them were already at quite a high level of proficiency.
To provide light relief, we also gave courses in Social English and focused on diplomacy, politeness and appropriateness.
We had young Business English courses too using some of the more commonly known published textbooks and taught BEC Higher and BEC Vantage.
We also got to teach groups of lawyers, bankers, MPs, politicians and journalists - all specially designed courses. These were broken up with trips to UBS, London law firms, Parliament etc with whom the school had had contacts for many years.
A high point was 1-1 tuition. In these classes you could occasionally get to teach newly arrived foreign football players and managers.
Loved that job. I only ended up in Korea because the school founded a franchise here in Korea and needed a DoS.
After being here for a while and comparing the cost of living, I decided to stay.
(In London I was paying way half my monthly salary in rent for my flat in Earl's court!)

How is this going to be conducted? Will people have to meet in person? How will you address people interested but live in Busan and Seoul? |

Mainly it will be done online, to be honest... but we should get together every few months for a face-to-face event....
It doesn't have to be in Daejeon!! LOL. In any case, I am willing to travel ^_^ |
