My boyfriend and I recently went through the hiring process with a Hagwon and got up to having our visa numbers. Then the Hagwon backed out saying they couldn't afford to hire us. We've since been accepted to another Hagwon. We're worried about getting new visa numbers from Korean immigration. Will the first visa application make it difficult for us to get approved now? How does Korean immigration know we're not taking the first job? |

It depends on the officer and possibly immigration location. I had the same thing happen last year. I was finishing my contract with School 1 in September, signed a contract for School 2 in August and got all the visa stuff before September, and then it fell through. I was worried too, but when I went to get School 3 immigration just handled it as if I never got School 2 and made it a transfer from School 1 to School 3.
One important thing is that you need to get another transfer form from your first school, since that along with your passport, ARC card, and application will be used to process your new visa (which is just an extension after you change location).
Feel free to PM me with the EXACT stamp title on your passport when you get it and I will compare it to mine to see that we have the same thing.
When I did it, an organization that hired me for the school helped me and scheduled an appointment with an office at immigration. So, we walked in and an hour later (probably less), I was able to walk out with a new stamp and my ARC card was updated (make sure this happens). |

We aren't requesting a transfer because our work visa's were never processed. This will be our first job in Korea. We got as far as work visa number's to put on our visa applications but never submitted them to the Korean Consulate here in the U.S. Do we need to tell Korean immigration that we are no longer working with school one? We aren't able to just walk in because we are still in the U.S. The second school is hiring us directly, not thru a recruiting company. Can the second school take care of this with immigration? We just want to avoid any problems that could occur. |
