Deagu has two good things going for it.
1) It's a lot cheaper than Seoul to get wasted on beer or soju and pig out on 5000 won samgyepsal.
2) It has a Costco.

Daegu was better about 5 years ago when the downtown had a nice central meeting area, with that water fountain and everything. There were better shops too, and the streets seemed cleaner.

I went back not too long ago, and it did indeed seem a bit... dire.

Well, all the best to my Daegu people... fighting, as they say...

I've never lived there, but always rather enjoyed my visits, particularly the hotel in the center of town that has a Phillipino band, good beer and a buffet. Mind you, the last time I was there was 2006. Daegu, although rather smelly at times, is better than Gwangju, I would have thought.

I lived in Daegu for 15 months. Some bad times/experiences but overall Busan was better. I felt things changing for the worst in 2005 and believe new teachers are having a harder time.

Last year was an eyeopener in the obnoxiousness when meeting colleages of a friend. When I spoke about my current job in Canada the snottiness dissappeared. Yep. This monkey makes good $ working in a specialized field (3 certifications). Attitude adjustment indeed!

I know the hotel you're talking about (but can't come up with the name). I had been there 3 or 4 times. Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! They brew like 4 kinds of beer - Weisen & Stout are their best in my opinion. I was there a few years ago and all you can eat buffet and drink beer was about 16,000 won. The filipino band was very fun.

If you work in Daegu, you must search this place out. You won't be disappointed.

BTW, at the same time, the Seomun market had a big fire. Have they rebuilt it?

That bar...assuming he was talking about the Ariana...was closed a few moths ago.

It's reopened as a Korean style nightclub called Mamma Mia. Heh,,,c'est la vie.

Communes is still there. T-bird was sold. The owner opened a restaurant called The Holy Grill.
Daegu is like Regina, but without the culture.
