Hello all,

I've searched the forums, but haven't found anything specific to this.

Is anyone from Pennsylvania? Obtained their CBC from PA?
I've been tearing my hair out trying to get this damned piece of paper. I was told by my recruiter that I could just go to the State Police office and get the report, have it notarized and apostilled, all in the same day - IF I just go there. Anyone know if this is true? How it is done? If it is just bullocks?
I don't know why she would send off on this damned chase if it were completely untrue that one could do all of this quickly if they just show up in person. I believe I would have to drive to Harrisburg (3 1/2 hours away), but whatever I don't care - AS LONG AS I COULD JUST GET THE DAMNED THING.

Otherwise, from everything I've read and everyone I've talked to on the phone - it seems I have to mail in the CBC application with a cover letter stating that I want it to be notarized as well. This all is supposed to take 2 weeks. Then I have to mail it off to get it apostilled - another possible 2 weeks.

Is this actually how slowly and ineffectually this process has to be done? Or is there some truth to what my recruiter tells me, and I can go get this taken care of swiftly and in person?

I would GREATLY appreciate any information you all might have.

hey, im not from PA, but i don't think it's possible to do all that in one day.

im from NJ and for the state level criminal check, i had to get fingerprinted (not at the police dept, but at a fingerprinting facility) and then wait about a week for the results to be mailed back.

notary u can get at ur bank for free, which takes like 2 seconds, but the apostilles can take about 2 weeks.
however, my state offered expediated service, but i had to go directly to the district court for that. i was able to pick it up the next day (but at 40$ per document!!

but every state is different so just do a search on apostilles-- ur recruiter should have given u information on how to do this

bottom line, i really don't think anyone can do all that in one day...these things take time to process and the gov't has thousands of documents to process..the fastest i think is a couple of days to a week to get all that done, providing u have your cbc in hand.

This can be done very easily and yes I am from PA. Go to your local Pennsylvania State trooper barracks. Ask for a criminal backround check request form . Make a check out fot 12$. Put it in the mail. You should get it in two to three weeks.

I read your thread more. You have to go to Harrisburg. I might be easier to just drive there but if you are in Western PA that can be quite a pain in the ass. Go to the appostille office. Bring your notarized degree and CBC and they will put an appostille stamp on it. Took maybe 30 minutes from the time I got to Harrisburg to when I could leave.

I should read your whole thread lol. Ok here it is the process I did.

Step one go to the State Police office. Ask for the form. Mail it.

Get the form back take it to a notary. Stamp it. Get copies too, like three.

Get in a car and drive to Harrisburg. Get the appostile stamp. The office is in the capital complex. It takes about half an hour to do. Make sure you have a money order. Photo copy EVERYTHING!

Once you get all of the stuff back from Korea (which is the real pain in the ass part) then you have to go to the Korean Consulate in NYC. MIght have to get a hotel room too. Unless you want to drive there and back and back again in Manhattan traffic...

Don't worry I got all of this done a week before my departure date. It can be done. Waiting for the visa pin is the worst part. Also prepare for inefficiency when you come to work here My work experience here makes the visa process look like a Daytona 500 pit crew wheel change.

Maybe. But online stuff off of government websites sometimes takes longer than it should.

I did mine online. Paid 10 dollars. Was ready to print out within minutes.

That was in 2008.

I think it still works that way.

It was notarized and apostilled without any trouble. As far as I know, the system hasn't changed.

I'm from Pittsburgh and I had to do the CBC thing in 2008 as well. I went to the local police station in suburban Pittsburgh and they told me I couldn't get a check in person, I had to do it online. After filling out the form it said it'd take several weeks, but mine was finished in a few days. I took it to the embassy and got the apostile.

However, last I heard these online checks were no longer valid, and you need one mailed to you or received in person. Don't quote me on that, but I recall seeing that a few times last year.
