| In American politics it seems as soon as the president is either elected or sworn in the media already starts talking about the possible presidential contenders for the next presidential election 4 years away. Their first year in office you will here about a few polls. By the second year these polls dramatically increase. By the third and final year they are all over the place along with the non-stop campaign coverage of those running. |

| This is sometimes true, but not always. It was particularly true during the term of John Quincey Adams (elected 1824). Andrew Jackson had won the popular vote but lost to Adams in the House of Representatives. Jackson spent the next 4 years running against Adams without any noticeable letup. It worked. Jackson won in 1828. |

Ah. I did misread the OP. It is about the media rather than politics. My bad.
bacasper is right. The media focuses on anything flashy and avoids as much as possible reporting substance. It's the nature of the beast. |
