I'm heading to China at the end of July for a week. I'm already in Korea, but was wondering the best way to get a visa for China (I'm American)?
I work M-F from 9:30 - 6 PM in Ilsan and can't leave work to travel to Seoul during the day.
I saw Xanadu had a service, but it's very expensive.
Also, I've heard that I have to get another visa to get back into Korea....Is this true? I currently have an E-2 visa.
Any advice?

| You'd need a travel agent get it for you. It's expensive, because the tourist visa itself is $140 for Americans while much less for other nationalities. You need multiple entry on your E-2 to come and go without a visa problem. I automatically got it without asking or applying. To see if you have it, look at your visa for an, "M," on entries. If it says, "S," then you need to go to an immigration office and pay more money for it. Serious matter if you plan on working after vacation as leaving on an, "S," entry invalidates your work visa. |

When you book your airline ticket, tell them you need them to get you a visa as well. If they say no, book your ticket with someone else. Individuals cannot get there own visas. I got mine last week. Expect to pay 190,000 for the visa.

To be clear, this can be done at the airport. You don't have to make a special visit to an immigration office in town. As Asia said, though, it's going to cost you, again. |

Thanks for the help. I booked my ticket through Orbitz....not a local travel agency.
The cheapest I can find for a visa is 200,000 won. Where did you get it for 190,000?

| I got it at Xanadu. They are charging you 10,000 extra because you didn't book your airline ticket with them (I think). |

Wait, what? My [American] visa for China was only 160,000 at Soho, which I think is normal if you don't need rush processing, unless they raised the rates in the past month or two. [email protected]
You can get a re-entry stamp at the airport, but it's only good for a single re-entry and you'll have to deal with it again the next time you leave. Easier to go to the immigration office and get the multiple re-entry stamp. You can also do it online at http://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/index.html, but you have to (HAVE TO) print out the certificate and then keep track of it. If you have a case for your passport just fold it up and tuck it inside, and keep another copy in your luggage or something as backup. |
