when i came home to my apt this evening there were a few indications that someone had been in here. can't be 100% sure, but... i am definitely on alert. what's your opinion-- should i bring this up with my school? we're not 100% loving each other at the moment for a variety of minor reasons, and my approach is to just avoid administration unless there's truly there's no option not to. but come on...this would just be so not cool if it were so. let me know what you think.... thanks in advance.

well, i won't get into details but suffice it to say there were indications that someone had used my bathroom! wtf??? can you believe that? or maybe i'm just being paranoid.... i really don't know but if you put a gun to my head and forced me to say one way or the other-- would say yes, someone was here.....

Sorry, not funny.....that's just odd though. You'd think that they'd have flushed and been careful not to leave anything noticeable like that. Maybe you could have a random conversation with your boss. Just start chatting with him/her about something random. Then bring up "oh, you wouldn't believe what happened. So weird. I went home yesterday and a huge dookie was in my toilet and it didn't come from me. Do you know if anyone might have an extra key to my apartment?"

Be casual like that, just to see their facial reaction.

It used to be common around here to recommend changing the locks on the doors as soon as you move in, just to insure the admin didn't come snooping around.

Consider it.

Take a look at the other doors in your building. Almost certainly there will be a sticker next to a door knob with a phone number on it. Call and have the lock smith come by.

People definitely have been in my apartment while I'm away...but its been the building management (though I didnt know at the time).

My apartment was really messy so apparently everyone in town learned all about it

My town is literally an intersection and is pretty safe so I dont deadbolt my door (only use the regular lock) when I leave.

I always know when management has been in my room because the door is deadbolted when I return.

So maybe it was a maintenance person?

My friend has his apartment checked randomly acouple times a year by someone at his school. He doesn't like it, but that's how it is

What purpose does your school have for snooping around your apartment without your permission? Is that even legal?

Coming into a persons apartment is pretty common here. It is done for a variety of reasons. DO NOT call the locksmith that put his/her sticker on your door. Most likely your landlord/school knows that locksmith and will simply call them if they have trouble geting into your apartment. Get another number if you wish to change your lock.

Your school could have a copy of the key. The previous tenant could have given to key to a friend. There are so many possible scenarios where someone has a copy of the key.

Anytime I move into a new place, I always change the locks. Spend the $50!
