Condom use is associated with poorer mental health outcomes in an article from the latest Archives of Sexual Behavior.

Broken link but I've heard about this years ago. My main criticism is that they did not bother to test the mental well-being of people who contracted a disease or who had an unwanted pregnancy after not using a condom.

I wonder if this study was done with monogamous couples or with people who went from partner to partner. I also would argue that the loss of mental well-being from not using a condom pales in comparison to the loss of mental well-being from having an STI or an unplanned pregnancy.

So...keep using those condoms, kids!

The text mentions that condom usage and abstinence both are associated with depression and suicidal tendencies. Isn't it possible, then, that being in a relationship close enough such that you feel comfortable having intercourse with no condom is what causes mental health benefits, rather than the sex itself?

Kabrams comment is also fairly valid; the psychological results of the negative consequences of not using a condom should be taken into account if they were not.

Discovering my partner uses birth control maximizes my mental health benefits.

Works for me.

The correlation held for the never married, but it does not mention number of partners. It also states that greater incidence of penile-vaginal intercourse, rather than relationship status, is associated with better psychological health (soemthing my own personal study confirms Laughing Exclamation)

By all means, do the study.

I am hoping to get hold of the entire article.

I don't have a link for this, but I remember that sperm release in a woman causes her to have a deeper connection to the man. This is all the more reason for men to be responsible and use a condom until a firm commitment has been established.

The consequences avoided from using a condom more than offset the loss of a little mental health Wink

I will say that this article provides good justification for bareback!

The study only looked at penile-vaginal intercourse, but it would be interesting to see if the correlation holds for penile-anal intercourse as well.

Really? I know I am happier when I don't use a condom.

Assuming you are a straight male, aren't you?
