Hmmm. . . that would be nice to add to my Mercedes. The engine noise in that car sucks to the point where I can't stand driving it any more. I put maybe 50 miles on it last year. |

Korean engines = #1 reason not to buy a Korean car, no matter the quality of everything else - e.g. - Genesis Coupe.
Maybe they should swallow their national pride and send some spies to Japan and learn something.
Or - stop trying to market and sell cars in countries like the US.
that gadget's sound is quite annoying though.
madoka, say again? you hate the sound your Mercedes engine makes?
too loud? too soft? or what? |

It's this weak puttering noise - almost embarrassing. I could sometimes hear the same noise when in idle in my Porsche. Maybe it's a German thing. I love the sound of the V8 in my IS-F though. Take it over 3500 RPM and it's a menancing growl. Even at idle there's a nice rumble to it. Who would have thought a Lexus would sound better than a Porsche? |

I remember way back when reading a Sport Compact Car issue that feature a twin engine Tiburon. The guy threw an engine in the back trunk that drove the rear wheels. The thing ran on methanol. Nuts. Ultimate sleeper. |

Well, speak of the devil. I was just reading the Porsche forums and they have a thread complaining about the engine noise from the new DFI engines which they switched over to last year (mine is a 2009). There are times at idle when it sounds more like a Volkswagon Beetle from the 70s than a sports car. Now once you get the RPMs up, it sounds wonderful, but since it's a mid-engined car, you are right in front of the engine and it's in the cabin with you so can hear it a lot more than your typical car.
Plus, I'm still a bit bitter over "German engineering" and the nickel and diming Porsche does. I recently found that if you move the passenger seat all the way back, it touches the engine bay and at certain RPMs, it makes the seat shudder violently. I paid $440 to get the ipod input option only to find that it doesn't recharge the ipod! So I have to remember to take it home to recharge it every few days. I've got about two dozen little, whiny complaints like this. When another forum member wrote to Porsche complaining about one of these little complaints, their response was "It should be reward enough to drive a Porsche." Classic. |

The Genesis 4cyl is the same basic block as the Mitsubishi Evo. I do still agree with your comment on Korean engines though. |

the Japanese have mastered the art of putting turbos and super turbos on small block 4 cylinger engines though.
Witness the 90-00 Mitsu Eclipse. that 2.0-liter, DOHC, 16-valve engine was a classic. Even without the turbo it'd put any similar Korean engine to complete shame. |
