I'll be flying over to Korea for my first teaching gig in early Feb. I'll be working in Sanbon JSL. I just received an email from my recruitor that I have 3 days of pre-training, 3 days of official training which I must pass, and 5 days of 'periods of adjustment of teaching.'

Can somebody who have worked in JSL please tell me what they all mean in detail? What is the difference between pre-training and official training? What do you do? Is the official training very difficult to pass? What is the consequence of failing the training programe? Any handy tips? etc

I would ask my recruitor, but to my frustration, ever since I've signed the contract, my recruitor frankly doesn't pay much attention to me. Takes him forever to reply back to my emails Crying or Very sad

Thank you so much!

According to one director I talked to:
pre-training is watching videos of JSL teaching method.
Official training is learning how to teach JSL way. Lesson plans, curriuclum, demo-teaching, etc.
Adjustment is teaching under observation. Presumably to see if any old-habits are creeping back in.

The director said a shaved monkey can pass the tests. (Although K's don't seem to do so well)

When I say K, I mean K ESL instructors that learnt English in Korea.
Traditional Korean English education methods don't seem to make good JSL instructors.
That's what he said anyway.
I think if you qualify as an F-4, i.e. at least middle, high school in E-7, you'd be a shaved monkey.

Have they discussed what'll happen in an unlikely event of failure?

Lemon: Let me know how your training goes. I'll be heading there myself near the end of February.

Sure thing Silence. Although if you're coming before Feb is out, i'd still be training. I don't start training till the 9th. *excited*

By any chance, are you going to a campus in Sanbon, Gyeonggido???
