I was recently hired by a POE to teach english to high school students. I just received my contract from the POE. The first page has my name etc, and salary (level 1) hand written in ink, and all the pages are signed with the Korean stamp. There was only one copy of this contract, which I will take to to the consulate tomorrow to apply for the Visa . My recruiter stated that I will need to sign the official contract when I arrive in Korea during last week of Feb (they implied that no changes to the contract will occur).

I am assuming the contract I have now will be the same as the one I will sign in Korea (ie., same salary etc.)

For the english teaching veterans out there: Is this a correct assumption ?

thanks

yes. inform them of the one copy issue. I would also take the time to photocopy and/or scan the one copy you have.

I would NEVER, EVER, under ANY circumstances sign a new contract when I arrived. Everything would be set up before I left my home country.

I signed a contract back in 2003 to work in Japan, I get there and 2 months later they wanted me to sign a new contract with less pay. I had to quit and get a new job.

You can't do it so easily in Korea.
