There have been a few threads recently where it's all been about stupid things that Korean people say. Now, I'm not Korean or a gyopo, but I do believe that turnabout is fair play, and, to be honest, it's not as if the foreigners here are all immune to statements of utter ridiculousness. Besides, if you can't laugh at yourself, etc., etc. For example, there's the time my friend said: "Koreans have very muscular legs, but they don't have the ability to develop upper body strength like Westerners."

"I've been here 10 years and I hate this place"

"How do I use the subway?"

"I know I requested to live in the countryside, but where are all the Westeners?"

From Canadians and Brits: You're American? Let me tell you what I find wrong with your country even though I've never been there.

"I understand but I wouldn't allow that language to come out of my mouth"

From an American who has lived here 25 years describing his Korean skills.
I can't remember the exact quote but something to that effect like speaking it would degrade him.

Usually the ignorant things that are said are the stupidest.

I worked in Korea for 10 years and talked it up when I went back home in 2006. Someone I know got the bug and headed to Korea. When I was back in Korea visiting less than a year later, this person had been living and teaching there for less than 6 months and professed to know Korea and the educational system better than I did. It still urks me when I think about it because instead of asking how to adapt, this person just went on and on like they were an expert.

During my first year in Korea I worked with a guy who was (and probably still is) a social moron. He was bright (graduated from a top university) but had the people skills of a robot. He couldn't read body language or facial clues and had no idea about speech that wasn't literal.

Anyways (this might give me away, but I don't care) during the time there was a really famous convict that had escaped from the police many times. He became a legend. This was 1996-97. I forget his name, but some co-workers of mine got one of the wanted posters and changed the face to this NET's photo. Then they hung it up in the staff room bulletin board.

Him: Hey guys, this guy looks really familiar.
US: Trying not LOL and ruin it.
Him: walks out of the staff room.

It took about 4hrs before he realized that it was a joke and he was the guy in the photo. I mean, how clueless can one individual be?

Me: little over 3 hours by regular train or bus. Shorter by KTX
SG: Can I take the subway? Which line?
Me: No you can't
SG: But how many miles is that?
ME: Just under 200 miles
SG: WTF??!! I can't travel that far too see you. You should just come here to see me.

To be honest sounds like the guy had Asperger's or some other kind of high functioning autism.

naw, they could just not be working out enough

I gained 5Kg here almost immediately on Korean food, a few weeks of gym and I lost it all and got back to my high school body.
