I went through a recruiter and got English teaching job in South Korea. My recruiter told me that I have to be in Korea by the 10th of February so I would leave here, Chicago, on the 9th. The recruiter also told me to go through a travel agent because if there are any problems or changes to my flight the travel agent can take care of it.
A week ago I found tickets for $560 and told the travel agent this and the website I found it on. (This was the first time contacting her through email) She thanked me for emailing her and said she would get back to me in 24-48hrs. That was on Tuesday night, the 19th.
It has been almost a week and she hasn't responded and now when I look for tickets I cant find anything less than $650. I'm starting to get upset because I have to pay for the ticket myself. The school reimburses me about a month after I arrive.

Basically I want to know people's opinions on booking a flight to Korea with or without a travel agent. Please help me.

Now I'm sure that people will disagree with me about this, but if your school is going to pay you back, then just buy it yourself. We did that and it worked out, but make sure you talk to the school first. We went through a recruiter that also gave us some travel agency, but they were also unhelpful and didn't call us back, so we did it ourselves. Those travel agents are useless, at least the ones you get through the recruiters.

If you really want to go through an agent, ask soho travel here in Seoul. They are very helpful and will actually get back to you.
