Has anyone been told that their school will be reducing the number of teachers due to GEPIK budget cuts?
ie just having one teacher instead of two?
I am trying to work out if there will be a problem, my school have said they want to keep me but its possible that GEPIK budget cuts may mean they can only have one teacher when my contract ends.

I am preparing my documents if worst comes to the worst and I have to find another job!

it's my new mantra... "forewarned is forearmed..."

just make sure to stay on the good side of all who can have a say in your next place.... the principal, VP, coteacher, and assorted others.... hopefully you have a co teacher whose willing to be part of a team...

I heard that story every year from 2004-2009 (usually about 3 months before my contract came up for renewal) and they always managed to "find the funding" the day after I informed them that I found a new job and wouldn't be able to stay.

It is just padding in case they need an excuse to not renew one of you.

No worry. There is still lots of money available for the NETs in the PS system.

The money comes from the Korean government through the Provincal School Board. The school receives more than enough money to pay you.
In fact, they usually make a profit that they either pocket or spend on some project.

I became livid when my school turned away qualified applicants due to the "budget"- then they turn and insist money has to be spent on a recruiter even when a walk-in is hired Rolling Eyes

Yep. Strange that after I had been at my high school for a few months, the school suddenly had money to replace all the chalkboards with whiteboards (except mine) and built a new science lab. I did manage to get a projector after considerable moaning and complaining. Wink

They can also get more money for building/renovation projects related to having a foreign teacher. That amount depends on political pull.
