OK, I'm not a gamer at all and this is a gift. So please enlighten me.
Does the DS Lite have an operating system, or a video system or region system ie pal/NTSC? When you turn it on is there a menu for language choice etc? I understand the games themselves come on cartridges, some of which have language choice. But would there be differences in one bought in Korea v Europe? I'm not too fused about upping to the DSi BTW
Now that you've all picked yourself up off the floor over my ignorance, let me say that in the UK they're around 240,000won for the console whereas even at Lotte here they're 150,000. I'm sure they are cheaper elsewhere. But would they be only in Korean? I get that the manual would be, but there are ways around that.
Finally, Japan or HKong might be better option for this especially as it's more likely to be English in HK?
Now you can stop laughing at this granny! Advice plse. |

There shouldn't be any difference. DS's are not region locked.
BTW, in Japan they launched a DSi XL. The screen is much bigger, so its much more pleasing to the eye to older folk. |

I bought a DS here in Korea. When you first turn it on you set the language of choice.
I also bought the adapter and R4 card and then downloaded games to that. Games come in different languages but just choose the version you want. No need to ever buy a game.

It's the DSi LL there. Was sooooooooooo tempted to buy it and be the "coolest" kid on the block, but I couldn't justify the 20,000 yen price when I already have a mint DS Lite.
Colors could use some changing on the LL, though: wine red, black, and natural white (almost like ivory).
It comes packed with the Opera wi-fi browser thanks to additional ram over the DS and DS Lite. Bigger stylus, two cameras, and obviously the screens are both 90+% larger than their predecessors.
The DSi XL will be released elsewhere in the world at a later date. I don't think there is a set release date yet for North America, though. |
