|
|
I have to move to Seoul shortly, and have received great advice about goshiwons for short terms and neighborhood realtors. I am starting the apartment process on my own, and I don't know Seoul all that well.
Questions: Are the Dangsan (line 2), Sangdo (line 7), Heokseok (line 9), Gangnam-gu Office (line 7) areas safe? For the Seoulites out there, which of these areas do you think are best or most convenient? I am leaning toward Dangsan for the best bang for the buck, but what the heck do I know?
Also, is there anything I should be aware of concerning key money or scams? Is it really difficult or common to be cheated out of key money? Has anyone heard of nearsubway.com, and are they reliable?
Thanks in advance. |

Have you ever felt unsafe in parts of Korea? Cause everyone I know feels completely safe anywhere they go. Including females.
Anyways to answer some of your questions, Dangsan is close to Hongdae/Sinchon. Lots of bars, clubs, etc...
Gangnam of course would also be great, again great nightlife in Gangnam.
The other places I dont know about.
Regarding key money, i dont think its common to be cheated out of money. Millions of Koreans have used the key money system for years. Im sure some people get scammed but there are ways to be safe. I dont remember exactly how but you can go to some City Office place and they can tell you if the Owner or Building has any liens or large debts against them/it.
good luck! |

I used to teach a lawyer who dealt with real estate fraud. There are cases where someone rents a place to several people and runs with their money. But it seems to be rare and the country is tough on it. |

I've look at their site when looking for a home before, but I think you'll find you are much better off dealing with realtors in person when in country. Koreans do this in person, not off the internet. I think there is a chance of getting scammed renting a house in Korea off the net. |
