|
|
I have a Korean friend who's having a hard time finding a good school to teach at. Her English is basically at a native-level since she lived most of her life in America, and also graduated from an American Uni...and has an education degree.
However..she can't seem to find anything better than a hagwon (which she doesn't want). Anyone know of any type of school she should try looking into? Thanks. |

a PS perhaps? A Korean friend had a great time at his school, and to make it a bit more interesting, let the idea that he didnt speak Korean be known to make kids work harder.... of course he did, and got tabs on all the hi -jinks around him... |

There are plenty of female gyopo wanted for kindie work on this site.
However, non-blonde-young-female-north-americans seems to be shut out from PS jobs at the moment.
A job search can tell you a lot about where your place is in this world.
She can either hold out or lower her expectation.
She can ask herself a question: What does she really want?
Does she want a job or does she want to teach? |

She spent most of her life in America as in she is American?
If she has American citizenship or Korean makes a heck of a difference. |

If she has an American passport, she can get a public school job.
If she has a Korean passport, then she can try to pass the Korean teachers exam or go work for a hagwon. |

It doesn't matter what type of passport she has for a public school job depending on how long she has attended school in the US (or Canada, UK, etc.).
If she attended school from middle school and up through uni she can get a public school job as a native speaking teacher. Unfortunately if she hasn't gone to school for that long she can only get a job as a Korean teacher which would require a complete different set of credentials which wouldn't be worth getting.
Overall there are a lot of opportunities for qualified English speaking Koreans. Yes, they are at hagwons but they'd be at hagwons that are looking for such teachers. |
