Quote:
JERUSALEM -- Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said Monday he hopes to bring Israel into the European Union, at the start of a three-day visit to the Jewish state.

Berlusconi brought eight top ministers for a joint Cabinet meeting with their Israeli counterparts. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Cabinet ministers and a military honor guard welcomed the Italian delegation.

Under Berlusconi's leadership, Italy has become one of Israel's strongest allies in Europe. Berlusconi's efforts to strengthen ties with Israel followed decades of a pro-Arab tilt by previous Italian governments.

Have at it.

Signore Flamboyance said this, did he? I think I just heard one big collective eye roll from everyone west of the Danube in Europe.

That would be quite a slap in the face to Turkey if it happened, which it won't.

I think that the US is going to need to start competing with this EU thingie sooner or later. The most important part is the name. Because if you limit yourself by geography when naming your coolest-countries club, then sooner or later it starts to sound ridiculous. Take NATO, for instance. Its the NORTH ATLANTIC treaty organization, but these days it includes places that have never even seen the North Atlantic, like Italy and Turkey.

I suggest the Coolest Countries Club of Prestige for the name of the American version of the EU.

I can kind of see it happening. Germany would definitely vote for Israel's admittance. They don't really have a choice in the matter. If they vote no, then a lot of people would say, "Man, that's messed up."

Never say never, right? I don't want to touch this issue again with a 10 foot pole. Subjects I avoid around people I don't know: politics, religion, money and this is a nice collective mix of the three, ha

Eventually it's all going to be the World Union anyway. Might as well add Israel. Djibouti too, while they're at it.

Since they're not in Europe, allowing the terrorist zionist state of Israel in would be a mockery of the EU.

The Israelis should thank Silvio for his support, but politely decline.

I sincerely hope that neither Turkey nor Israel are allowed in for many many years. They both have some maturing to do.

Well they are already in the Euro song contest and the euro qualifying groups for the world cup. Logically EU would be the next move.

I'd take Turkey and Israel and then laugh as legions of turks travel to Israel for work.
