| If i had a friend buy me a US version of the macbook pro and had him ship it to me in Korea, would there be any kind of import tax? |

| I just did that and paid a 68,000 won tax. so, it still ended up being tons cheaper than the korean one. |

| I was thinking of bringing my Imac over actually. Kinda crazy to bring over the iMac? Nah, I think it'll work out. I like em batter than laptops. But hope I don't have to pay any duty or tax... since it is for personal use. |

| If you end up doing this, please update and let us know how it went for you. I always see people ask, but rarely hear of the outcome. |

If you bring your iMac, be aware that it will not be covered under warranty in Korea. Only Apple laptops and the MacMini fall under Apple's Global Warranty. The iMacs and MacPros can only get warranty service in the country they were purchased from. |

Last month here in Seoul I got perfect, fast warranty service with my U.S. purchased iMac. I had AppleCare, though. It has global coverage.
I got my 2.66ghz iMac in the U.S. a year ago with AppleCare service. A few months ago I finally brought in my unit for repair. The display had for gone really dim for a few months and then parts of it had these weird flashlight spots on it. The week before I brought it in my hard drive started crawling and the system would freeze for 15 minutes at a time before returning to normal. If I tried decompressing RAR files, it'd freeze up. I reinstalled the OS and the same HD problems happened. Then the hard drive started clicking and it all went to hell.
I brought it to Daihwa Computer (an Apple service provider/authorized seller). They fixed it in a week. New hard drive, new display.
With AppleCare you're covered globally. See this AppleCare information. I've got AppleCare on this sucker until 2012.
I don't know about getting warranty coverage with just the basic warranty (w/o AppleCare) though. I'm thinking there would be no problem. Anyone get turned down for repairs/problems here in Korea within the first year warranty period, without AppleCare? |

Thanks for that tidbit of info! Very good to know...
But I still think I'm gonna take my imac there. Maybe if it has probs, I'll mail it back to someone in Canada, whilst buying a laptop (will have to get a laptop anyways). I just use my iMac for my music and then the laptop for work.
If my iMac ever had problems though, I'd be a sad, sad, human being... |

I just read your post today, Richard, somehow I missed it before. Anyhow, I do have the global AppleCare coverage, so I guess I'm fine. Thanks bigtime for the info! |
