I heard if you get the insurance program on your phone - you can 'lose' your current 3GS and replace it with a 4g once it arrives in korea?

Nope, they won't give you a iPhone 4G, only a refurbished one of the same model you lost (3G, 3GS).

Shockingly, the iPhone 4 is coming to Korea in July, I thought it wouldn't be here until at least winter to allow KT to get rid of its 3G and 3GS stock. Apparently, Samsung's Android is coming soon on SK is why it's arriving so quickly.

Also, I'm betting around Christmas, KT will start offering some type of upgrade plans to the iPhone 4 for current 3G/3GS users.

I bet the pricing is slightly different to the US prices, eg a 32gb Iphone 4 for $299

Damnit. I just stumped for the HTC Desire. I think it is better specs wise, but the Apple store is still so far ahead in terms of apps. And no games. Rolling Eyes

I am curious what the upgrade cost is going to be. I already got folders and multitasking via jailbreak on my 3gs. The nice sparkly higher resolution screen, front cam and flash are the only few things I care about but I don't think it's enough for me to fork over a bucket of cash for though.

$299 is a "bucket of cash"? You're spoiled. Most Koreans dump $800-$900 for a new phone. The last LG Chocolate was 960K KRW and it's not even a smart phone.

That's the USA pricing. The two articles I found have said pricing, plans & upgrade information for Korea will come out later. If it's only 300k won I will pick one up but much more than that... I'll just wait it out, it works fine unless should I break my current one. As for Koreans spending that much on a phone. Good for them, I'd rather take a vacation!

If it is 300k + 2 years contract then I will pick one up for sure. I've never owned an Iphone and my old Itouch is still kicking but I'd like to upgrade.

Something tells me however that it will be much MORE than 300k. Maybe 600-700k range like the blackberries which is a complete rip off.

I like the new iphone but I am a bit dissapointed that there isn't any 3g video chat, only WIFI. The "facechat" feature is nothing more than iphone to iphone skype with video enabled. Nothing special IMO.

Korean phones have been using video chat for years now.

KT will not allow upgrades. The contract that you sign with them has no upgrade provisions. If you want to upgrade here's what you do:

1. Pay the 164,000w contract termination penalty
2. Pay off the remaining balance on your phone.

So, if you have 700,000w left on the phone costs, you gotta pay that entire thing the day you cancel your KT contract.

Now, you are stuck with a 3GS that no one wants that you just paid a crapload of money for. Is the Iphone4 really worth it? You'll be paying 950,000w (estimated price of the Iphone4) over 2 years. I don't see KT offering upgrades. It makes much more sense to them, for you to pay them EXTRA money, and also be stuck with an older model phone. If they offered upgrades, what are they suppose to do with all the 3GS's that people turn in? No one is going to buy them.

Personally, I'm going to keep my 3GS at least until Christmas. The Iphone4 OS will hit and the only difference between the 3GS and the 4 would be the forward facing camera and the higher resolution camera. Those are not deal breakers in my book. Around December, I would've paid off half of my phone breaking the contract would be a lot cheaper than doing it in July.

Also, I could probably pick up a used Iphone4 for cheaper than what KT offers. OR, I would switch to SKT and get me an HTC Incredible phone (which will be available by then).

People with 3GS's, unless you don't mind spending $1000 to get the latest and greatest, I don't think its worth it now to upgrade.
Around December would be a good time. Hell, the Iphone 4 is not even 4G. I bet you Apple will release a true "4G" around Christmas time, pissing on the people who got the Iphone 4 ion June/July.

Don't know if anyone wants to go the ghetto route and just upgrade the software on your 3gs. Wont have the front facing camera or high def screen, but I figure if I need to video conference, I'll do it on my computer.

For 3GS users, I think that is the best way. The Video Conversation will only work in Wifi hotspots, and I believe will only work Iphone to Iphone.

The new screen is sharp, but it is extremely dark in sunlight. Iphone 3GS users will be able to use their phone in direct sunlight, as opposed to Iphone 4 users who will be doing their best to shade/cover their phone from the sun so they can see.

The Iphone 4 OS for the 3GS should be enough to make people satisfied. I don't think its worth all the hassle and fees to go from 3GS to 4.

true with the hassle and fees to upgrade, but if there was a simple way it would be nice!

I also am hearing that a lot of people are upset since the 3GS now is half price --- a lot of the customers here want discounts ! Very Happy
