Coroner's officials say the death of a 13-year-old San Pedro boy who choked on a hot dog during a fundraiser for Haitian earthquake victims was an accident.
Los Angeles police Lt. David McGill says Noah Akers and other children were taking part in a hot dog eating game at the Boys and Girls Club fundraiser last Thursday when the boy started choking. Organizers say it was not a speed eating contest.
McGill says an initial investigation found that the children at the fundraiser were properly supervised.
The organization's director Mike Lansing says paramedics were called and the boy was taken to a hospital alive but he had gone without oxygen too long. He was removed from life support on Monday.

That's pretty sad to hear. RIP.
Reminds me of the woman who died holding in her urine in a contest to win a Wii for her kids for Christmas since she could not afford one. |

Must have been some severe choking. I guess the Heimlich isn't a cure all like on TV.
It's kind of sad in another. They won't do any more events like this again. Less fun in the world. Because hey, what's more American than eating til you puke? |

Noah joined a dozen other children in a hot dog eating game, which club officials noted was not a contest to see who could eat the most hot dogs, the Daily Breeze reported.
Each participant was handed a cooked hot dog with whipped cream on it in a bun, and each child who could finish the unusual combination was to receive candy as a prize.
Children were advised to take their time and were told it was not a speed event.

Hardly gluttony. What childrens' event doesnt include snacks & games? Choking incidents can strike anyone at any time with sudden tragic consequences. The Heimlich maneuver is not infallible.
I cant fathom what the OP's intention was in posting about this & under a misleading title. |

I think I accidentally bought something like that from Paris Baguette...
Really sad story, though. |
