I am leaving in a month or so to teach in Incheon...
What are the natives like there?...I have no experience with interacting with Koreans in general.
What do the girls act like and look like generally, I want to maybe get a girlfriend. whar kind of character do they like?, Do i have a better chance with girls that are my fellow american teachers?
I've heard mixed things about korean girls/woman
and is Incheon (english village) fun? or do i need to be prepared to go to Seoul to have fun...what is there to do in a day other than teach
I know its too each his own...I just want to know what i might expect...

I think it depends where you are. A lot of people try to avoid it because there really aren't as many english speakers as in Seoul and all that. However, if you're planning to learn Korean, than that's not a big problem.
If you're into clubbing, then you'll probably not like it in Incheon, with the exception of a few clubs/bars.
The plus thing is that most things are much cheaper there than in Seoul.
I personally liked it, but I was also in a convinient area of Incheon and made friends quickly. Do you know where you'd be in Incheon? |

Meohmy, my fellow american, you might become my new favorite n00b.
1. Love it.
2. Girls love indecisive guys. You will be a hit.
3. Yeah its kinda like you know they are not all the same.
4. Not even fun for the kids. |

| Incheon has the lowest test scores of any major city in Korea. That might help you figure out what to expect. |

Lol, you'll be fine.
1. Most koreans are nice and forgive easily. I'm talking 'above and beyond' nice. They all want to talk to you... so if you get some intense stares in the subway they're probably thinking of a way to say "Hello."
2. You shouldn't have a problem getting a girlfriend if you're not picky. Just hit up a western bar and you'll find a few brave Korean girls looking for a way out of Korea.
3. My guy friends complain that Korean girls are too expensive. I'd say it's all the same as back home.
4. My 6th graders say it's fun... maybe not for the teachers though. At least you'll have other foreigners to hang out with. |

....thank you for the posts so far
lay it all out there for me...guys and girls
Picky? Are they typically not good looking? I need a girl with a body and curves to be attracted to them hips..etc... Do they have nice bodies? that sounds bad, but I'm just being honest. Everyone thinks I chose Korea because I want to get with a asian girl, but i don't even know what they are like.... -thats also the reason I'm trying to stay cool with my ex here in the U.S. She is awesome but I want to have options....I am...an ass, but it wouldnt work anyway, a year? overseas???? yea right, i would want to see her all the time...it'd be torture...I know Ill miss her though...
anyway
I heard they like light haired guys with blue eyes. I've got a nice build but I'm dark haired and brown eyes, I'm ok to look at haha except for my big nose... and hairy...in this summer, I won't even look white anymore
whats the situation with gyms over there...I want to be able to work out
What should I expect with culture shock. I know I'll be excited with it being a new place for a few wks-months...but Incheon?... Is it going to get old quick?...I'm thinking there are many americans or 'foreigners" in english village, so should I even worry about Korean women?
also My buddy in the military said he heard it stinks over there??? and that stinky breath is commone??? wtf???
any thoughts? I am ignorant as all hell...Help this guy out...
-Still nervous...
Will I be able to use my x box over there??? X BOX live beotches!!!! I gotta make sure I can still play with my boys.
And will I get my own a apt or have a roommate, whats the norm??? |

That's pretty obvious...
...Here's some help. I'm heading over there soon too, please either
1. Stop being a complete douche before you go.
2. Don't go, you'll give the people that are actually going over there for the teaching/culture a bad name.
3. For the love of god, stop using "wtf" and more than one '?" or "!" to end your sentence. It just screams that you're 12!!!!!!!!!???!?!?!?!? OMG!! See?
4. Go to some encyclopedia, or dictionary, or whatever you use to gain knowledge (No, XBOX live doesn't count "beotches!!!") and look up "English Teacher." You may just find that it's pretty important to know English before you go, perhaps a school of some sort could help out a bit with that!
5. Please write back an angry response to this comment. I figured you would anyways, and nothing makes my day more than angry stupid people! It's ten times better than watching MTV! |

Eschoonard-
No angry response. Not trying to offend anyone. I was just under the impression that I could free write here, and be completely honest about my frustrations and fears, If I held back...my questions wouldnt be answered...
I ask bluntly so I can get blunt answers and who better to ask than people who are or have been there. I want to be prepared...yes my questions are a bit shallow...but those are the things I am worried about right now and want to know.
didn't know I was being graded....
1. I AM going, I need to pay off student loans..and want to explore
2. I act like a douche here, but I would never disrespect anyone or have bad manners when I actually get there.
3. I want to take my x box to Korea, and want to play with my buddies in the U.S, when I get to Korea...I don't think you understood that.
4. I only used wtf once and yes. I may have overused ????
dude or lady... have a heart...I already said I was ignorant.. |

I often forget people can't interpret tone over message boards very well. Picture Dr. Cox from Scrubs going on a rant. Much more what I was going for.
Anyways, quite impressed with your response!
Still gonna call you out on the multiple "??!!!?" but that's mainly because I've been guilty of that in the past.
I am kind of a sarcastic ass, but I mean no personal disrespect! Just call it as I see it. And often I see it wrong
Tips:
-I know nothing because I've never been there, but I have two friends living in Incheon. They enjoy it and feel it's not too far from Seoul to easily go on weekends.
-DO NOT but a converter and plug your XBOX into it. Wait until you are in Korea and purchase a 220 cord from Microsoft. My friend blew out his 360 doing that.
-Third tip, witch it what I've been telling myself about going. Just go and roll with the punches! I plan on being there more than a year, so even if the first year isn't perfect, I know the 2nd will be because I will have a good feel on what type of job to get a where.
-Read this board like none other! Goto YOUtube and watch people's uploading video's about teaching English in Korea. Look for Blogs for people that are over there. I've found the blogs especially helpful because that's where they get excited--or vent--to their family about what's REALLY going on! |

Usually, if you know nothing about a topic, it is best to say nothing.
meohmy85, there are lots of gyms are they are not too expensive. Many people do have breath that smells, usually a nice blend of kimchi, garlic, soju/maxim and for men cigarettes. |

I was in Incheon a few years ago. I think its peaceful there. They dont get much foriegners there at all so they are more helpful, respectful and nice....unless they are the type that hates foreigners and avoid them altogether. You get both types there.
Girls will see you as a fetish there. I've been hit up by a few 'mama-sans' offering things there (Yep, i look like a soldier).
Incheon is nice. Quiet and peaceful with very few foreigners. |

If it's true that you don't even live in Korea, why do you have any business speaking about it? Second hand knowledge is not the same as living it. Yes, the OP is being stupid and will have a rude awakening when he gets here. He seems like he is not mature enough to live and experience another culture, but you have no input of your own so stop speaking about that which you don't know.
To the OP, you need to grow up before you get here. Incheon is a fine city although it lacks the options that Seoul has. Girls here do not want sniveling indecisive guys who have girlfriends that they are stringing along at home. Also, unless you plan on staying up till all hours of the night or your friends want to get up really early in the morning, you are going to have a hard time finding time to play XBOX. |
