Hi guys

I am planning to use the vacation in May (5th or 21st) to make a 4D3N trip to Macao n HK with my wife.

I notice that most airtickets to HK are around 450-500k Won. In addition, I think I can manage hotel for 3 nites for around 300k Won. Can I get better airfares? Or can I save some money by looking for packages which combine airtickets and hotels. If so, where can I get this done??

thanks

Cathay Pacific has packages (air/hotel/transfers) similar to what you are seeking to do for about 500k won per person.

There are lots of OK hotels in HK and Macao in all budget ranges.

I liked the evergreen hotel in kowloon. hk$400 per night and within 5 minutes walk of the temple street night market and the jade market.
There is more than enough to keep you busy in HK for 4 days...

Unless you plan to spend a lot of time in the casinos, 2 days/1n (ferry and customs clearance time included) is ample for Macao as a tourist (I lived there for a year). Be aware that at peak times the queue for passport control can take more time than the ferry ride from HK to Macao.

I just got back from HKG and Macau. I stayed at the City View Hotel for HKD 484 per night double room , just by Nathan Road (but not on the road itself so quieter), next to the MRT station and close the to the markets (Temple Street/Ladies Market etc). I haven't stayed at other hotel before but apparently this hotel has bigger sized rooms in comparison to HKG's usual tiny rooms.

For Macau you can get combined ferry + hotel tickets at the harbour ferry terminal at a discounted rate. Though I booked my hotel (Sintra Hotel) through Macau.com at a very reasonable prize.

Remember for Macau you can use any of the hotel buses to get around for free to many places.

Use www.tripadvisor.com for hotels, you can see the price ranges and people's reviews.

Thanks for the information.

I will consider the Cathay Pacific packages, but rightnow, the packages are available only till March. I am planning to go in May. I think with a package, I might get the Ticket+hotel deal for 1 million instead of 1.3 million.

Thanks for the info on hotels too. I will search for them on the internet.

Don't know how you figure that.... cathay low season rates (what may will be) in a 4-5* run about 700k per person (double occupancy/twin beds) and in the 3* places run 400k for 4d/3n airfare and transfers included.

I have NEVER paid upwards of 1 million won, except at XMAS.

You'll be hard pressed to get airfare for less than the visit HK now package rate.

If you are planning to go... stay on the kowloon side of the harbor. Rates are usually better and transportation is easy (bus or subway).

http://www.evergreenhotel.com/ has rates as low as HK 380 per night (double occupancy) and includes a decent buffet breakfast.

I have stayed there and found it acceptable (3*).

sorry, i did not quite get what you said. are you saying that i can get a 4D3N trip for 2 people within 1million in May ??

my estimate was (900k for 2 tickets, 300000 won for 3 nites in hotels +food, tourist spots , shopping ). is it too high or too low ?? money is not a big issue but i want to make good decisions Smile

i am ok with 3* hotels. but i would like to stay 1nite in Macao also. can this be arranged with in the Cathay package.

Yes, you CAN get a package for 2 people, 4D/3N for about 1 million TOTAL price.

If you want to add a night in Macao then you just pay the ferry over and the night in the hotel of your choice. (no discount on the HK package - your room just stays empty for a night).

Add in the cost of food, entertainment and tourist stuff.

You may also be able to get a package from someplace like MODE-tour or Hana-tour for similar rates that include a lot of the tourist stuff.

On an off note to this tread, Google maps now have street views for Hong Kong. Cool stuff...
