Been threads on this before.
But do u try to coach your kids to cover mouth when coughing and sneezing?
Man, this is such a simple fix to improve the image of Korea, not to mention better health.
This makes me more pissed than anything here, and I've almost been run over by cars and motorcycles countless stimes.
I know I can't live in a bubble, but am prone to serious bronchial colds...and it just seems so damn rude and stupid...
Ideas? I know Koreans are very smart and hygenic, and have seen posters about this...but it is just ridiculous on buses and PC rooms when people cough and sneeze right by your ear |

When I sneeze, I always pinch my nose, hopefully tissue available too or I don't unpinch till I get to the washroom.
I make a really strange PHARRRRBing sound, which is a little embarrassing, but I don't care as I'm normally heading out of the room.
I really find it hard to sneeze any other way than the way I've been doing since first grade.
I usually feel it's better to let my sneeze out, but I can only do this over the bathroom sink as instinct prevents me doing it anywhere else.
My wife sneezes 'Korean-style' and it's her instinctive way of sneezing.
Kids are better than adults. Try and avoid breathing near such sneezes or wear a mask. |

all starts in the home..
how many of your students fart in class!?
how many koreans have you seen chewing with their mouths open and talking with food in their mouths?
how many koreans have you heard farting on the subway?
how many korean guys have you seen smoking in cars with children riding in the back seat?
how many koreans have you seen pulling down johhny boys pants and have him pissing into a cup or just onto the street at a bus stop!
how many koreans have you seen spitting all over the place???
ETC ETC ETC ETC!!!!
emmmm maybe they need a hakwon for etiquette...
we were raised with manners! becuase our culture and heritage from europe as early settlers arriving into American practiced them.
problem is even back home many of those manners which we grew up learning from our grandparents are slowly disappearing too..
but in korea it was BOW to your elder and respect me becuase I am born 1 year older than you.. and thats it! |

I teach my daughter to cover her mouth and nose when she sneezes and coughs. Then I tell her to wash her hands. When a bathroom is not available, I give her a wet wipe and/or hand sanitiser, depending on availability. |

According to the US surgeon general, you should sneeze in the crook of your arm (the elbow pit). This way the germs don't get on your hands. I taught this to my kids after some little angel sneezed in my face. |

Sometimes I just don't get how so man people feel the need to go "AAAAAHHHHHCHOO" when sneezing, it's not like sneezing through your mouth only and not screaming isn't a choice. I can 'silence' my sneezes easily by just holding it back a little bit right before it comes out, and I usually sneeze down into my shirt. It just bugs me how many people feel the need to scream as if it's out of their control.
I'm pretty sure they do it just to be annoying - subconsciously or not. |

^ I'll let out the loud "Ah-choo!" if I'm alone or around people I'm close to - it's more a more satisfying "release", for lack of a better term.
In other cases, I tone it down as much as I can without hurting myself. On a side note, I've heard that you shouldn't completely stifle a sneeze as the pressure results in one losing a few brain cells. I have no idea whether that's true or not, but it seems possible. |

I rarely try to stifle a sneeze. When I have, it's usually resulted in feeeling worse afterward, so now I just let it blow full steam.
However, I simply bow down as low as I can to the floor and sneeze into the floor. My students seem to enjoy coughing and sneezing right into each other's faces. |
