|

OK. So basically, I have been job searching. My recruiter found me a job with SMOE, which, you know, is good. But no guarantees or information whatsoever on where I'll be teaching & living (a little concerned about this, especially after hearing about that co-op housing thingy).
So, I have just recently been offered a much better job JUST as my recruiter got all of my documents into SMOE. SMOE is just about to get some kinda of visa number ready for me to take to the consulate, and should be sending it to me tomorrow...
Now, I am wondering. What to do, what to do... The "better" job pays .3 million won more, and is a guaranteed high school position. Same start time. But I'd have to re-send all my documents over, and tell my recruiter "sorry."
If you were in my situation, would you bite the bullet and take the less attractive job? The job you've already signed the dotted line on? Or would you get your stuff together and send over the documents for the better job offer, tell your recruiter "sorry" and get a visa from a different sponsor...
Main question here: what happens if you're issued a visa number, but haven't got your visa yet from the consulate? Is it still possible to jump ship at the last minute? I know it's not the coolest thing to do, but it is a year of my life!

Last year, SMOE overbooked their visas and canceled a whole bunch of visas at the last minute, leaving 200 people or so stranded with possibly non refundable airplane tickets. Weigh that into your decision. |

Yeah, that's a problem. My major criticism with SMOE is that they don't guarantee you anything. They told me nothing about my school (high school, middle, or elem), what my apartment is like, or what area of the city I am in. They are also very picky with work experience. If you weren't in SMOE before, then expect a lower-than-it-should-be salary...
This is why I like the other job offer... |
