The story itself is a bit silly, but the cancer statistics at the bottom are dumbfounding. Do you think these statistics are accurate? That seems like an awfully high rate of cancer in a population.

A new report from the Korea Transportation Safety Authority shows people are more likely to be in a car accident than get cancer.
The agency said Tuesday that some one million car accidents were reported from 2004 to 2008 in the nation.
The statistics show that South Koreans have a 35-point-two percent chance of getting into a car accident at some point during their lives.
The figure is higher than the probability of Koreans getting cancer.
According to figures released by the Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs last year, the likelihood of a Korean man getting cancer at some point in his life stood at 34-point-four percent. The figure stood at 28-point-nine percent for Korean women. |

Abuse of alcohol -- liver cancer
Smoking -- long cancer
Meat -- testicular cancer
Then count in the yellow sand, car smoke, stress and hardly a holiday to boot ....
I don't want to be a Korean man. |

Not so much lung cancer - the result of smoking is mostly in the circulation system - your arteries decrese in size so that they block your blood from getting around.
Most smokers die from circulation problems before lung cancer gets a chance. |

I've came across some stuff on Koreans and cancer as well.
The common thing I found was about the food and high salt content. They don't salt there food like we do in The States but hthe salt that goes into Kimchi and other fermented foods is more than enough. If you factor in the amount of fermented things they eat everyday it come out to be a lot of salt.
I know fermented things are good for our body but not 7 days a week 365 days a year. |

Stomach cancer is HUGE here. And considering that everything is spicy it is no wonder.
When you go to the hospital for your medical check up a form asks you if you smoke drink and there is a seperate box that asks if you drink soju.
So yeah don't drink that garbage. |

Kim Chee might be good for you but if you eat a lot of it will increase your risk of stomach cancer.
It is sort of like salted or smoked meat. |
