Thubron writes novels and travel lit, the travel stuff get novelized when he sees fit.

He's got a real thick way with words, the writing in wrapped tightly in meaning. He stories are fiercely plotted out. You'll get a real sense of architecture when reading the novels. The writing is quite somber, he can report something as joyous but he does it in a depressing manner.

Thubron seems to be someone who went to a very good school on purpose and paid attention while he was there.

In Siberia was a very different travel book, he focuses on the people he meets rather than his experiences as he travels.

I have only read Falling and although a love story will not make Oprah's list as it does not end well
