If I were to extend my contract by just 2 1/2 months, would I still need to leave the country to renew my visa?

The EXTENSION of your status of sojourn (assuming you are E2 and NOT a short term C-class) simply takes a little bit of documentation, 30k won and a trip to the immigration office.

A change of STATUS (from E2 to something else (other than f-series) USUALLY means a visa run.

Can you tell me what documentation I need to bring to immigration office? I'll be in the same situation as the OP at the end of this year. Thanks a lot.

Not sure exactly of everything because there's a guy at my school that handled all of this for me... but I know he took my ARC, passport, and a revised contract that showed the extended time. Also, they only extended my ARC and not my passport visa because apparently the ARC overrides the visa.

The date on the ARC determines your period of sojourn (NOT your passport).
As long as the date on the back of your ARC was updated then you are fine.

For those who were asking; to extend you need:

your ARC
your passport
your new contract or appendix showing the new end date
your sponsorship (from your school)
their business registration
application form
30k won for the extension and 50k won if you want to add a multi re-entry permit to it.

takes about 20 minutes over the counter to get it done. You get your ARC and passport back before you leave the office.
