You go there and ask why Native English Teachers must get tested for HIV/AIDS EVERY YEAR and pay for it while Korean teachers NEVER have to. Be sure and stand up when you ask this question to the highest corrupt "official" in attendance. |

Oh for God sake Pinished, give that a rest. Go to the hospital get your bloody needle and be quiet about it. Big surprise they treat us differently.
we are not Korean citizens , we are held to a different standard than Korean citizens, is it fair? not always, but it is our CHOICE to work here. Most of us come from a culture where both drugs and sleeping around is MUCH MORE culturally entrenched and open than here in Korea. One day this archaic beleif will be gone, but fro now you are not gonna impress any one by standing up at a job orientation and pissing and moaning like a little school girl. |

you'll sit in on a lot of seminars and speeches. you'll be broken up between elementary and ms/hs and be given teaching demonstrations. you'll also be expected to develop a 10 minute activity to present with a partner. mine was a year ago and they had a traditional dance class and a bboy breakdancing class.
everyone will be complaining about it because that's the best way to bond with 200 new people. if they still have it, i'd recommend going to the optional culture seminar - there are usually a bunch of people who've lived in korea and they ask really good questions based on past experiences they had. i found it incredibly informative.
dave deubel is often one of the speakers and will give you great online resources and teaching strategies. he's always very popular as a speaker (and on esl cafe a lot ^^)
it's going to be boring at times but it's only a week and you are getting paid for it. i recommend using it as a good opportunity to meet solid, enthusiastic, and serious teachers that you can use as a support network during the year when you need advice. |

If you think sleeping around is more culturally entrenched than in the West, you need to a lot learn more about Korean culture. |
