So from previous posts on here Iv'e read a good cheap way to send stuff home is by boat. Just takes awhile, but it doesn't matter.

But we went to the local post office and asked about me and they said they don't do it, and that only way is to send it through plane, which is pretty pricy.

So, is the boat shipping only through certain places or what? Just curious

Go to this website and go back to the post office. You can call the number for a BBB English-Korean translator and easily resolve any communication problems. So go to the post office and call the number there, explain your problem to the translator and pass the phone to the post office worker.

Yes, I concur with the last post. I was given the option when I sent stuff home: surface or air.

Yeah, it exists, but you need to use a moving/delivery company. Like an 이사 company or a 택배 company that has overseas service.

I'm searching around for those types of companies, but their websites don't have a whole lot of English going on, and the ones that do, have stuff about Jesus on the main page. Not sure what's up with that.

If you can find the contact info on that page, or a similar company's page, and get a Korean friend to call them for you, they should be able to help. They would come to your house, pick up and pack the stuff for you, pack it in an ocean container, and deliver it to your door in your hometown. It might be kind of expensive too, but should be cheaper than air. Best to do this if you have kinda big and expensive stuff like furniture that you're shipping back.

it depends on the size of the box (no big boxes allowed), but as of a few months ago, it was still possible to send packages by boat/surface mail through the post office here in korea.

i think it's everything except for that biggest box that they sell at the post office. so basically a small- to medium-sized box...

Does KoreaPost offer a service where they pick up packages at your home for int'l delivery? I need my GF to send three #5 boxes of books and personal effects to the States, and I'd rather she not have to lug them to the post office herself.

If anyone has any info, that'd be fantastic. Thanks...

I sent six boxes thru PO a few years ago. The box size was about 1.2m by 40cm by 40cm max. The max weight was 20-22kg.
I did a collection at a PO at the other end. They were sent by ship. Cost was about 100k won each box to send.

About lugging them, get one of those Ajuma Halmoni trolleys.

Different countries allow different size boxes to be shipped by boat. You can send size 6 boxes to Canada, but the USA will only allow up to size 5 by boat.

#5 boxes can be shipped to the US by boat. You don't have to tell them verbally, just mark the box that says "surface". They say 3+ months, but I got my boxes in less than two months.

so ive looked into sending stuff to canada....according to the korean postal website, it costs 48k for a box up to 20kgs by surface mail. i see that people on here are talking about getting companies to deliver it etc but do i really need that? can i just take the boxes to the post office and they'll deliver it to my girlfriends place in canada?? also, i need to send an xbox 360 home too....is that ok to put in with the other stuff as long as its well wrapped up??
