Hey everyone, well I've been here almost 6 months now. It's been a great experience but unfortunately I'll have to leave in June to return to school in August. My contract does not terminate until the end of September. So I am curious as to how and when I should inform my school that I'll be returning sooner than planned. Should I give them two weeks? Or will they even give me the two weeks? Keep in mind its a public elementary school in the middle of nowhere. They're very relaxed and casual as well, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on your relationship with the administration.

If you aren't cool with them, it's not best to let them know now. They might get rid of you ASAP and get somebody who will stay the full semester rather than stick with you and have you leave mid-semester.

If you are, let them know and they'll provide you with a letter of resignation. I think you only have to let them know 30 days in advance though.

Yeah, it will take some working out. Take them out for sashimi this week, ply them with a bit of soju, then come out with it while they're in a good mood and try to sound sincerely apologetical. It's smooth sailing from there.

This is a common question. In summary, you are going to get two groups of people post replies.

1. People will say that you should give them advanced notice even if your employer is the scum of the earth and will clearly shaft you in a varietyof ways for a variety of reasons. These guys will say that you are even worse scum if you look out for yourself and DON'T give notice.

2. Other people will tell you to just do a midnight run to avoid the risk of your employer doing you any harm.

Some will say that it depends on your relation with your boss (which actually will play a part in it). But at the end of the day, you have to decide for yourself. No new opinions on this topic are going to be posted in this thread. It will be the same opinions posted dozens of times already (mainly by the same people as before) on similar threads.
