Hi everyone
I was wondering if anyone could help point me in the right direction for my teaching career. Pretty much, I would like to have one of those 4/5 months paid holiday uni teaching gigs but was wondering if there's anything else out there I should be looking for or even if you think it's worth going back to Korea.
Just quickly, my qualification include a Master of Education (TESOL) and a Master of Arts (Applied Linguistics) and a B.A. in Sociology with a TEFL Cert + ielts examiner cert. + 4 years uni teaching exp (2 in Korea)
The downside is that I don't have any publications and my masters degrees were distance and coursework. I'm 28/m/Canadian
Thanks! |

You sound like the wonder kid from heaven. Why are you posting here and not applying for jobs on the net with those sort of qualifications?
I am not trying to be rude or anything buddy but am I missing something here. You have heaps of qualifications; more than me and you can't get a job ...Jeeezzzzz. I wish I was a seagull flying free in the wind..... |

I suggest you go back to work at Mcdonalds.
You have all these qualifications and 2 years University experience in Korea, and you need to ask advice where to get a job?
Either you are a complete moron, or are lying about your qualifications. How can someone have 2 masters degrees and have lived here for 2 years in the past have absolutely no connections?
Starting date for University gigs is March. I doubt that you will have time to get the best gigs, but there will be some middle ranked places. |

I have a Masters in English, and I was studying for a PhD in English (with some teaching experience in the university) before poverty got the better of me and I came here. I don't know about getting a uni job from outside the country-I applied a load of times and didn't even get a reply, but you should be able to walk into the public school of your choice. That said, I didn't have any TESOL qualifications, so you might have better luck. |

Just apply to jobs. YOu have great quals, uni experience in Korea. I was able to get 20 weeks paid vacation, with only an MA in TEFL, 4 years uni experience in Peru, publications and some workshops that I gave.
Though I will say the only downside is not being offered housing, at my uni, but still, that-s ok. Can win them all. And I got it from being outside of Korea.
And my MA in from Spain, distance and although I finished in March, my courses closed in June 2009 and I won-t even get my degree until June 2010. If I can do it, you should have no probs. |

Thanks for the feedback
I applied for quite a few jobs in November but it was difficult to get an interview from outside of the country. I think I'll wait until March and then try again for the start of the September semester. |

Yes, I've met one doing only privates because he wasn't from a native English speaking country. |

The OP must have only one eye or something. Future employers see his/her picture and thing "OMFG we don't need no stinking cyclops teaching here".
Just kidding OP.

Did any of those qualifications involve practical observations and teaching practice? If not that might be the way to go. If you're going to write papers about how to teach you should make sure you can do it yourself first |

Good idea but vacation time is more important to me

Yeah that's another negative about distance learning - the classes were more theoretical, so no teaching observations, though I've had heaps from the various jobs I've had...
You have heaps of qualifications; more than me and you can't get a job ...Jeeezzzzz.
Could probably get a job, but it's tough to get one of those professor jobs - my uni in Korea was pretty small and in a small town, so didn't make too many connections there...
Thanks for comments everyone - I think I'll wait till the next hiring season and try again, but if anybody has any hot leads, feel free to send them over |
