I'm sure this has been discussed b4 so forgive me.
essentially, what happens when you change PS jobs? do they have to take you to immigration prior to expiration of your current E-2 in order to renew it.. but this time under their aegis??
same deal if you move from PS to hogwan?
basically I'd like to know what I need to do, or have ready if anything.
and... how long can we stay after the E-2 expires? 7 days? (I know one can go and get an extension at immi if needed, but I remember reading 7 days. Correct?) |

I haven't worked there since '04, but I don't recall having to do anything special prior to leaving. The visa expires and the next employer applies for the new one. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this.

It is MUCH easier if you renew the visa before it expires. This way you don't have to leave the country. Basically, you go to immigration shortly before your visa expires (even just a few days is fine) and apply for a change of employment place and a one year extension. While you are there, get a multiple re-entry permit as well. You will need documentation from both employers. The process is easy and as far as I know it doesn't matter if one or both are public schools or not. |

thanks. This is what I was looking for.
Seemed idiotic that I thought I had to do a Japan visa run just because I'm merely changing employers. |
