Late night TV in the States is over. I find Leno tolerable, Letterman irritating, Craig sometimes unwatchable, and Carson well... ugh.

http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/01/15/conan-obrien-sons-of-anarchy-guest-spot-offers/

This would exciting, however. I'd actually start watching the show all the way from episode 1 if he were to join the cast. Even if it was a 3-episode run.

I'M WITH COCO!

I know. I meant clean by appearance. It wouldn't matter to me what preference he has. I was being silly yet again.

when I heard leno was leaving the tonight show I thought emm wonder who would take his place.. when they said CONAN was the first pick..
I was like.. OHHHHH NO... he is not well suited for that role..
CONAN should have never left late night..that was his francise why would you ever think about taking someone elses show.. stupid move.. now look the whole network late line up is screwed up seriously... best way to fix this problem.. is CONAN goes back to his old show... leno takes back his show.. and give JIMMY his own show at 1am... THE JIMMY FALLON SHOW or something like that.. and move on ....

what a cluster F#%K

I dont blame NBC for wanting to get CONAN out of that time slot.. he just couldnt make it.. and I knew from day one it wasnt going to work..CONAN blongs at late night his humor is for after hours..
leno is a family type of show..
Letterman.. he needs to retire!! the old man is becoming an old armchair in the room..comfortable but tired!

The real reason why they want to move Leno back to his original time is because his new 10pm talk show was absolutely destroying the lead-in ratings for local news, and the affiliates were about to revolt.

The NBC execs are trying to pin this on Conan not performing well at 11:35, but the new Leno show was the big failure. Besides, NBC gave Conan 7 months to build a show; Leno had two years before he started beating Letterman in the ratings head-on.

Conan's contract was up 5 years ago, and NBC were afraid they'd lose him to another network. So NBC and Leno agreed to pass down The Tonight Show to him in 2009: http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/6d1caacad1/jay-s-2004-announcement But of course, Leno pulled a "Favre" at the last minute and un-retired, so NBC gave him a show right before the local news, which is just performing horribly.

Leno is the most bland, safe, stale humor out there today. At best, he is a straight company man who will do anything the suits want. At worst, he's a scheming S.O.B. who has screwed over the likes of Johnny Carson, Letterman, and now Conan.

the ratings speak for themselves! LENO is a hit with America.. has beaten Letterman for a decade! if he was garbage the network wouldnt even dream of giving him his own show, or even consider bringing him back!
fact is he has fans! and draws close to 8 million people everynight!
advertisers like those figures and so does NBC...
CONAN already had a show for over 10 years and still couldnt double his audience! LENO was a nobody when he joined the Tonight show and in 2 years kept the most famous francise on TV. Conan is not doing so well..

personally I feel like a different comedian would do a better job...

what a legend!

the worst thing about this situation is not whats happening to conan. but conans staff who moved their families and lives across america for the show and 7 months later are going to be out of the job.

Leno is indeed a hit with America, but so are the Pussycat Dolls and Tyler Perry movies. Face facts: if Leno's prime-time show would have performed well, it wouldn't have destroyed the ratings for the local news, and we wouldn't even have this thread. The affiliates were not concerned with Conan's performance, they were sweating over Leno's new show:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/television/news/e3i313248bc657fce3c13440caaf62ba538

NBC made their Sophie's Choice, and it was to put Jay back at 11:35 for better or worse.

And yea, that Kimmel appearance was brutal. First he did an entire show hosting as Jay, telling bland jokes. Then he appears on the guy's own show and eviscerates him.

Bingo. Don't try to put this on Conan, it's all about Leno's 10 pm ratings and the NBC execs' bad decisions.

Letterman was explaining where Zuckerman came from the other night, and it kinda reminded me of the Miles' character from Murphy Brown. He was the producer of the Today Show way back then.

Now I'm waiting for some of the storyline to spill over to Baldwin's 30 Rock Jack Donaghy character, but not sure that Tina Fey will chance it even though SNL did a good job spoofing it last night. How could they not?

Looks like Conan will be smiling all the way to the bank. ET's reporting a $32.5 million settlement with the stipulation that he doesn't work again till September.

That should be enough time to plot his revenge.

I guess I'm the only one who got that joke. The thread title confused me too. i dont keep up with the goings-on of late night American tv. last thing I remember is everyone had a hardon because letterman grew a beard.

I don't think it is all fair to blame it on Leno either. Dude may not be funny but he made NBC money buy the truckload. Even though the guy was making them money by the truckload NBC decided that this probably wouldn't last forever and gave Conan a contract stating he got Leno job in 5 years thinking that Leno's popularity would be in decline and they needed to keep Conan. 5 years later rolls around and Leno one of the few things still making the company money and is now ready to roll off to ABC or whatever so NBC craps its pants and offers him a 10 o'clock show thinking they are getting cheap 10 o clock entertainment and saving themselves the embarrassment of seeing Leno kick their teeth in on another network. Now NBC has buyers remorse as the Jay Leno show wasn't doing so hot and neither was Conan with the affiliates nightly news cast getting killed in the middle. So NBC offers Leno back the job he never wanted to give up in the first place and Conan gets to go take the wheelbarrow full of cash he made and do something else. I don't think Leno or Conan did anything wrong and the whole internet blow up on Leno is just sour grapes that that is/was the king of late night despite not being all that funny. The real bad guys are the fools running NBC
