Let's say:
a) You're in Korea, next door to Gimpo and therefore a stone's throw from Incheon
b) You want to get to Minsk, Belarus
c) You want it to be as inexpensive as possible, and even prefer taking the scenic route

I was thinking something along the lines of flying Gimpo-Shanghai for 100,000won (plus VISA costs), then taking a train (transsiberian?) to Beijing->Russia->Belarus.

How realistic is that? Anyone done something similar?

How would I go about exploring these options, since I seem to have hit a wall researching online.

Thanks in advance for your ideas!

I would say there is absolutely no chance the overland route would be cheaper than flying.

$280US Flight Incheon to Shanghai
$80US Train Shanghai to Beijing in soft sleeper
$140US Chinese Visa issued in Korea.
$65US Mongolia Visa issued in Korea
$150-300US Russian Visa issued in Korea
$30-60 Belarus Visa issued in China

$300US Beijing to Moscow via Mongolia on Train #3
$40 US Moscow to Minsk (on any number of trains)

TOTAL SO FAR = $1100US.

Plus not including:
* Hostels in Shanghai, Beijing & Moscow
* Food for 2 weeks

All up I doubt you could do it for much under $1400US overland.

For a flight on Aeroflot: Incheon-Moscow-Minsk it would be about $650 US one way.

Thanks very much for that breakdown, Soviet_Man! I had no idea a flight on Aeroflot would be that inexpensive! How would you go about booking it? Travel agent?

www.expedia.com works if you have a major credit card, but also check the airline's sites directly.
