Does anyone here have experience in publishing ELT books in Korea? If so, I'd be interesting in hearing how you went about getting books published and which publishers are better to work for. |

I've published books here in Korea. If you want to do the same, you need to get experience in the industry. Working in a writing/editing job is a good way to give yourself the credibility needed to sell your material to publishers. In addition, you will establish contacts in the industry, which will also make it easier to get your work published. This is what I have done and it has turned out to be very lucrative for me.
If you have already published materials before, well, make a portfolio of your work and send emails, preferably in both Korean and English, to the various publishing companies here in Korea. If you can demonstrate that you can create quality textbooks that will sell big, you will be able to get published without too much difficulty.
If you want to know more information, just send me a PM. |

I published a textbook through a university at which I was working and self-published two textbooks in conjunction with a colleague.
In the former case, I designed the content and the layout of the book and then submitted the book to the English dept at a university at which I was working for consideration. They liked it and had it published through a small publisher - small print-run, small profit.
In the latter case, a colleague and I working at separate unis did the same thing, though we self-published. We then sold the books through the uni bookstores and used them in our classes. Small print-run, somewhat larger profit.
My conclusion: Too much work, not enough reward. |
