Good article. Grocery stores definitely overprice produce, so Wal-Mart is wise in expanding in that area, especially given its strength in logistics (and obviously its significant buying power). |

Not generally a big fan of Walmart myself (I usually prefer to buy at local shops within walking distance), but if they can offer the same products for cheaper than the competition, then power to them. Supply and demand is the name of the game; as long they play fair (I have no problem with big companies, as long as they don't break any laws or lobby for any government regulation etc. to give them an unfair advantage). |

Hell yeah, and Walmart is the kind of company that won't ever do that! |

Little surprised to see mises posting an the Atlantic article.
Still, interesting read. But how can we be sure the results holds US-wide? I mean this blind taste-test was done down in Raynham, right? But I suppose the buy local foods policy is national, and probably the best bet as sustainability (organic vegetables are a crock). |

I have a subscription to The Atlantic. I have been known to throw it in the trash straight from the mailbox. I'll not be subscribing again.
The article was good though. |

Don't like the magazine? It has good stuff, although I haven't read it in a couple years (minus the occasional article people post on here). I thought it covered the war in Iraq fairly well. |

I've developed a dislike for any media establishment (Reason is holding on, barely) that isn't near-hysterical about torture, war, debt and the rest. I know "moderate" is the key to inclusion but we're not in moderate times. The Atlantic is establishment garbage. And Goldberg calls anybody who looks at him wrong an anti-Semite. But in the past year or so I've let WSJ, Economist, FT and Mclean's subscriptions expire.
What did Jefferson say? You'll be better informed by not reading the newspapers. |

Half sarcasm, and only for the reason that Wal-mart is a corporation of the magnitude that has the proclivity to pull stunts at the expense of the average Joe. They have been investigated in the past for alleged wrongdoings. |
