i've met someone from avalon in suwon and they seemed to think it was a good gig...they had only been here a month (first time in korea) and so it's possible that they don't know about some shady stuff happening...but i just assume all hagwon bosses are corrupt.
suwon itself is nice. there's plenty of things to do and plenty of places to go...but if you want to travel to seoul, it can really be a hassle. if i want to go to central seoul. i end up taking a bus and the subway and it takes about 1 1/2 hours. it just means i don't go to seoul as much as i'd like, but it's got its benefits as well (i don't spend as much money). there's a big ex-pat community if you choose to be a part of it. lots of good bars, easy to shop, etc. |

I have lived in Suwon. I really liked it, even aside from the fact that almost all of my Korean friends are in Suwon. It's a good mixture of new and old, rich and poor, urban and rural. There are parks, a couple of streams with paths alongside, some nice hiking at Gwanggyosan in the north end of the city. And, of course, there are the department stores, large nightlife districts and so on. |
