I'm looking at doing a TEFL course before I travel to South Korea. Any advice? I know that courses that have at least 100 hours are a must but beyond this what should I look for?

Does anyone have any courses to recommend/avoid?

What will potential employers look for or is any TEFL course sufficient?

I'm in Ireland so if there are any Irish people on this forum who could point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks

I think most people's advice would be. If you're looking to make TEFL a career, start with a recognised course such as the CELTA or Trinity with teaching practice and observations. This will open doors in Europe and other places that take the profession seriously. If you just want to stay in Korea for a couple of years then do something else, do the cheapest 100 hour course you can find as Korean employers won't care.

If you work at a public school, you could do an online TEFL/TESOL course during your free time. As soon as you get the qualification your pay gets bumped up, so there's no need to wait around back home doing courses, just come on over. That's public school though, in a private school you won't have time to bless yourself!
