Hello all. If all goes well, I think I could be living in the Guui dong of Gwangjin in Seoul in the VERY near future. I'm just looking for some detailed insight from any of you that are familiar with the area.
I cannot seem to find much information on Dave's or in a general google search. So am I correct to assume that there is not much going on there, as far as social and nightlife is concerned?
If anyone can provide me with some insight, I'd greatly appreciate it!
THANKS!!! |

Not so bad. Near the Hangang and they are revitalizing that riverside area. On Line 2 if you want to go to Gangnam. Close to Konkuk dae and an Emart, across the bridge from Cheonho and another Emart and Hyundai department store. |

It's the very eastern part of Seoul, just north of the river. It is by no means a 'dead' area, though a good 40-50 minute subway ride to the 'foreigner' hangouts of Itaewon/Sinchon/Hongdae, as well as 'downtown' Jongro. Depending on your lifestyle, distance to those areas can be a good buffer zone or just a long train ride back and forth.
That said, lots of restaurants/shops/supermarkets/street markets, Technomart (electronics/people watching), Dong Seoul bus station (for long distance/airport buses), and Konkuk University area (for nightlife/bars) are all walking distance which makes the area good. Just further afield (less than half an hour away), you've got Jamsil, COEX, (both major shopping/people watching/entertainment areas), Costco (if you care about such things) and Walker Hill casino.
Definitely there are worse places in Seoul to be in than Guui/Gwanjingu. Good luck |

I think it's great for families. A nice library and recreation centre near Cheonho gyo. |

I work near there. But I live near Jamsil. The guui dong side isn't as nice as the jamsil side but still ok. There is a big technomart nearby for electronics. The river isn't too far. Also if you take a few stops on the train it easy to go to olympic park which is a nice place especially in summer. Not that far from COEX, maybe 15 minutes by train. It is very close to the bus terminal which makes traveling around Korea very easy too.
I would say in general it would probably be a better than average place to live. Easy to get around on the green line. |

I lived in the dong beside it for two years. It has gotten MUCH nicer in the past 10 years too.
What specifically do you want to know?
Yes, you are on the eastern most part of Seoul, so getting places is going to take some time. However, if you want to get out of Seoul, the bus station is right there and you are GTG for weekend excursions.
Oh and like someone else said, Technomart is right there, which is good and bad.
Are you working at a hawgwon or public school? |
