GEPIK is supposed to announce their decisions for the upcoming semester this weekend...at least thats what I'm told. Has anyone heard if they were accepted in GEPIK? |

A friend of mine said he was emailed today by his recruiter and they said its now next Wednesday. I thought I had read it was the 29th somewhere? I also think they just make this *beep* up as they go along...
Go figure? |

Well its consistent, so it must be true?
For a system as refined as GEPIK I am shocked they have changed the deadlines so late into the process? |

My recruiter told me the 27th. Supposedly over 1200 applicants applied for 196 positions so the had to push back the date. Odds don't look good . Backup plans anyone? |

1200 for 196? I would have expected them just to run a first come first served policy and get it out of the way? |

196 positions only? Hmmmm, that must just be positions offered through the office of education only??? Because in my tiny rural village/town, I know of at least 6 schools looking for teachers. I believe schools are suppose to hire teachers on their own now instead of through the office of education. These schools will probably contact recruiters last minute. I'd say in late February to early March there will probably be about 1000 positions available through GEPIK.
If you have friends already in Korea, ask them to hook you up. Contact the school directly. |

What is wierd is that they have been actively advertising GEPIK until last week, if they had so many applicants why bother? Its not as if the recruiters are short of teachers as they may have been in the past for the traditional bait and switch routine? |

I was told 500 applied but who knows what's correct. But this is just for the jobs through the head office, there are probably plenty of other schools that haven't even contacted recruiters yet. |

Don't believe everything you hear/read.
GEPIK is highly disorganized.
Many applicants also applied for jobs at SMOE, EPIK, and colleges. They will accept the best offer, which may not be from GEPIK.
Don't trust recruiters if they want you to accept another job, especially if it's something that you don't want. Stick to your guns and insist on a public school job. You may have to wait for a last-minute opening, but you'll have a better chance to get a good job. Working for a private school (hagwon) is bad news. |
