When I applied from my home country, the recruiter asked would I be willing to work a 23 hour gepik contract. ( Is anyone else on a 23 hour gepik contract?)They said the school was small and could not pay the additional extra hour, as they didn't have enough money . I accepted as I thought it was reasonable, that the school was so small(less than 100 students)and I would be doing the school a favour.
4 months on, the school decides to hire a second native native teacher on a 22 hour contract!I ask them through my co teacher, how come they got enough money to hire a new teacher, but would not pay the extra hour overtime.........Vice Principal just replies "ask the director next week".......She tells me I didn't work the full 23 hours because of classes cancelled etc..............SO why not give me a 22 hour contract???
Other crazy things.............Apparently the previous "native teacher" was Korean, posing as a native speaker.........Allegedly, she was a friend of the principal's wife! And now the school plans to have 2 native teachers now!
I thought entering a public school would be sounder, as its not a profit making company and not as demanding as a hagwon job..........But realising now, there are some real scumbags in the public schools..........
To be balanced, there are many people out there who don't get screwed over by their schools and are pretty content with jobs........I was just an unlucky one............
PS-The school signed a contract with a new teacher and canned him the day he went to Mokdong to immigration to apply for his E2 visa................ |
