For obvious reasons, I don't want to hand over my original diploma to my employer.

I remember reading somewhere that a copy will do, but I can't remember whether it has to be
1) Notarized
2) Apostilled
3) Stamped by the Korean embassy...

help!

IF you are from the states then number "2" for your "copy".

Nothing is required if you send the original or a university issued replacement of the degree.

In order for it to be apostilled, it must first be copied and notarized by a Notary Public in the same state you plan to have it apostilled. So both 1) and 2). Sometimes a county court records step is in there too. Some states are different.*

Google 'apostille' and your state to find the proper procedure. Don't use a non-government service unless you have time and money to burn. Go straight to the state agency who does the apostille work (*usually the state's Secretary of State) and follow their requirements.

Monday's a holiday, so don't bother calling them till Tuesday if you have any questions.

If you-re from IL, you hve to get it authenticated after you get it legalised and before you get it apostillised.

Another question about this: if one hasn't done the whole apostilled/notarized copy this for the diploma, and sends in original diplomas instead, when can one expect to get them back? This is for a public school job. Once the position begins, when can one start requesting the diplomas back? I have heard of employers hanging onto these, and I'm not too comfortable with that.

Also, I was a double-major (so have two diplomas). Is it necessary to send both in or just one?

Getting tired of all these hoops, but it should all be done soon...

My university does not issue copies of diplomas because (according to the registrar) "...a diploma is not proof that a degree was conferred." From me, immigration accepted an apostilled copy. Nobody gets my original. I paid $30k for that.

Well, my mom did.
