I'm heading to Busan on October 6th. I'd like to try and find a position soon though to know what my plan is, have some stability, and have some room to check out reviews, negotiate, etc. I have people 'on the ground' that can also walk by the school or find a teacher to check it out for me if needed.

Anyway, mostly just wondering, do you think there is any point in trying to apply now given that I won't be there till October 6th?

Also wondering - we see the salary posted as ranged all the time. For ex 2.1 - 2.4 mil... So, I don't have any certification, but I have 1 year experience teaching kinder, elem and high-school in Incheon. Where on the salary range do you think I should try and land myself based on that?

Hey thanks a lot for any responses, looking forward to being a more active part of Daves ESL Cafe again (I was posting back in 2003 when I was in Incheon)

LOL.... for someone who was here before and should realize that most jobs (with the exception of university postings) are only listed about 30-60 days prior to the vacancy....

Applying in Feb for a job in October...

LOL.....

No school (in Korea) will have a clue what staff are or aren't staying... or future enrollments ... 8 months in advance....

Heck... they have problems at even 60 days early most of the time...

October? No chance. That's just too far off. For october I'd realistically start looking two months in advance, as ttompatz said.

There are exceptions. I know of a school who finished their hiring in Sept/Oct for a job that started in March. Good school, though.

For both the school whose contract I just finished and the school I'm starting at next week I was hired in October or November for a job that started in March. It's a good sign if they have their stuff together enough to be looking way in advance. But very few will. And if you're looking for an October start date, that rules out anything but hagwons. So for hagwons, no, they probably won't be looking so far in advance.

If you were willing to start in September, though, I'd be applying in Jan/Feb for international schools (if you have the certification).

Edit: Just read that you have no certification. Well forget what I said, then. Apply two months in advance.

Cool, thanks guys that is kind of what I expected but was 'fishing' for anyone that might have a lead. Really the only thing that might work is finding a hagwon that plans to expand / buy new space in October and so knows that they need additional teachers (versus a teacher suddenly leaving at contract closure).

Cheers and thanks again
